Journey
in History--How
Liberia Got Into Soccer

We
are grateful for the opportunity to present this profile
of the beginning of soccer in
Liberia, which today has earned its place on the
international soccer map through superstars George Weah,
James Debbah and others. The journey has been long and
hard, but the enticing outcome for Liberia sometimes
makes soccer aficionados take the rich history of the
sport for granted. ALHAJI KROMAH PAGE has obtained permission
to publish a series of articles first carried in the
X-RAY Magazine, published in Monrovia May/June 1986 to
commemorate sports in the country. The work involves the
actual story told by the founders and pace setters of
the teams, the Liberia Football Association (LFA), and
other institutions that have catapulted Liberians into
international world stardom. The authors include John
Howard, commonly referred to as the "Father of LFA," Joe G. Richards and Arthur
Wisseh, founding
players of IE and Barrolle, Liberia's perpetual soccer archrivals. Enjoy the trip.
